Homemade Marshmallow Bunnies

Peeps are a classic spring candy. Who can resist their bright colors, cute shapes, signature sugary crunch and chewy marshmallow center? I wanted to try making my own homemade version so I could know what ingredients were going into them...and it seemed like an adorable challenge!

I started with a homemade marshmallow recipe that only uses 3 ingredients: sugar, gelatin and water. It seems a little complicated at first, but with the Pro Candy Probe and my iDevices Kitchen Thermometer, it's simple: heat up some sugar and water until you hit the right temperature, then pour it over gelatin and mix until it magically transforms into fluffy white marshmallow. Pour it into a mold and coat the pieces with colored sugar. That's it! Make a cute Easter basket cupcake with them or eat them on their own as a fun treat.

Ingredients/Tools List:

  • 1/3 cup cold water, plus 1/4 cup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin (2 1/2 teaspoons)
  • Colored sugar
  • Cocoa powder
  • The Candy Maker from iDevices
