If you’re attending the 2020 NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas (Jan. 21-23), make sure you leave time to visit the CHŌWA Concept Home built by our partner, Woodside Homes.

See the latest innovative building materials and smart home technologies, including dozens of iDevices Wi-Fi enabled smart switches and outlets, in this Japanese-inspired home.

What is it?
The 5,400-square-foot CHŌWA Concept Home emphasizes "living in balance." It combines an international design, development, and construction team from Japan-based Sekisui House and its wholly-owned home building company Woodside Homes (based in Salt Lake City) to introduce technologies, best practices, and a new approach to improving society through housing.

By showcasing Sekisui's precision-crafted approach to residential building, the concept home aims to empower U.S. builders and their partners with a North American example and education process.

“We relish the opportunity to showcase to U.S. customers the corporate cultures both of our companies hold so dear, as well as to make a physical example of our corporate maxim to ‘make home the happiest place in the world,’” Yoshihiro Nakai, president and representative director at Sekisui House, recently told BuilderOnline.com.

Nakai says the ancient Japanese term Chōwa “represents the spirit of partnership and reflects life balance, well-being, sustainable value, and connectedness to nature."

Joel Abney, vice president of operations at Woodside Homes, said many North American homebuilders tend to "figure it out as we go," in terms of the cultural approach to homebuilding.

"With Sekisui House, every detail is predesigned and designed to work holistically together," Abney told BuilderOnline.com.

How to get there
Located about a 20-minute drive from The Strip, the CHOWA Concept Home sits on a 0.4-acre lot in The Ridges neighborhood within Howard Hughes Corporation's Summerlin community.

The concept home is open from 10-2 p.m. throughout the show. Get a $35 credit from Lyft by using code CHOWAHOUSE20. Please use the following address:

Built-in smarts
Among other amenities, this gorgeous concept home includes smart light switches and in-wall outlets from iDevices. Actually, dozens of them. Visit the home, or our booth (SU1044) for a demo.

Our Wi-Fi enabled products allow homeowners to connect with their home’s lights and accessories from anywhere in the world via their phone using the iDevices Connected app. They can also set schedules and automations, and enjoy the convenience of voice control via Siri®, Amazon Alexa, or the Google Assistant — all through a single SKU, no hubs or monthly subscription fees.

Once you install our products in new builders, our U.S. based customer experience team will take it from there. We’ll field any and all questions from homeowners so you can move on to the next project.
